In 2179, Ellen Ripley, sole survivor of the Nostromo, was found adrift in cryosleep. After finding out that there were civilians on LV-426, she warned the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, the parent company of both the Nostromo and Hadley’s Hope, of the danger posed by xenomorphs. Weyland-Yutani sent the coordinates of the extraterrestrial ship from Ripley’s report to Hadley’s Hope, asking them to investigate shortly thereafter, all contact with the colony was lost. Weyland-Yutani of course had to investigate, sending a team of marines, who arrived there on July 27, 2179. There, they found only one survivor from the population of 158, a young girl named Newt. They also found a sizable xenomorph infestation. After obtaining her Masters in Engineering from the New York Aeronautics University, she joined the US Merchant Navy, serving aboard the Zelazny as copilot. After finding employment with the Weyland-Yutani corporation, she met and married a man named Alex, with whom she conceived a child. Though it violated Weyland-Yutani corporate policy, she carried the girl, Amanda Ripley, to term. In 2122, Ripley renegotiated her contract with Weyland-Yutani to take a leave of absence, to spend time with her daughter. The company’s stipulations included her taking one last run before her sabbatical: a pickup run from the mining world Thedus aboard the ill-fated commercial hauler USCSS Nostromo. On the return trip, while still ten months out from Earth, the Nostromo’s crew was awakened from hypersleep by a distress signal from the uninhabited moon LV-426. Investigating the call would lead to their encounter with an unstoppable predatory alien, the Xenomorph, leading to the deaths of all aboard except Ripley and her cat, Jones, and the destruction of the Nostromo and its entire cargo. Ripley and Jones floated through space in hypersleep until 2179, when they were picked up by a salvage team. Unfortunately, she had been recovered a year after the death of her daughter. However, due to her experience with the Xenomorph, the United States Colonial Marine Corps had other plans for her… Ripley thought she’d leave spacefaring behind and lead a simpler life back on Earth, securing employment as a dockyard Power Loader operator.
